Unfolding amid pristine forested valleys, Amankora offers a circuit of five resort lodges scattered through the ancient Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan. The Aman-owned Amankora offers a totally unique travel experience, with unprecedented access to an untouched world, still opening itself up to tourism. Named after the valleys they each reside in, Amankora’s five lodges (Paro, Thimphu, Gangtey, Bumthang, Punakha), are simple, elegant sanctuaries grounded in immersive wellness. Travelers may choose to stay at just one Lodge, but collectively, they offer the chance to experience Bhutan’s stunning landscape and rich cultural heritage within multi-destination itineraries.
While close to the capital’s sights and shopping, the fortress-inspired Thimphu Lodge remains a secluded retreat, set in the upper reaches of the Motithang region. Elegant Dzong-inspired architecture in high stone, white-washed buildings house 16 open plan guest suites. Dressed in sleek wood-panelled interiors, they come with king beds, traditional wood-burning bukhari stoves, and twin vanity bathrooms with terrazzo bathtubs. Each suite takes in gorgeous views across the landscaped courtyard with a stream or pine forest backdrop.
Each Lodge has its own restaurant, blending Bhutanese flavors and ingredients with Western, Indian, and Thai cuisines. Traditional plant therapies take center stage at lodge spas. Buddhist-inspired activities throughout the five lodges include spiritual hikes, visits to ancient monasteries, meditation, and prayers with monks. For stays of seven nights or more either at one, or several lodges, a tailor-made itinerary complete with road permits and private transportation is provided.

Bhutan’s only airport resides in the Paro Valley, and is serviced by the national carrier, Druk Air. A driver and SUV-style vehicle is required to get around the rough roads of Bhutan, and transportation is usually provided by the resort. From Paro Airport, it’s about a two-hour drive east to Thimphu Lodge.
